Opera is… music, theatre, singing, history, spirituality, beauty, art, love, death, passion, costumes, fun, and cool.

This is a blog dedicated to the idea that Opera is for everyone to enjoy. It is for anyone who’s interested in learning about more about opera, newcomers, or unfamiliar persons who are open to appreciate this beautiful art.

My name is Rocío Garcialonso and it is my passion to explore the wonderful and amazing world of Opera. This is my journey.

I was born in Mexico City 25 years ago, completed a university degree in Communications, worked for a few Digital Marketing Agencies specifically at an unforgettable Corporate Communication internship within Viacom (MTV Networks), but now I am embarking on my dream. Currently, I am living in Milan, Italy attending Accademia Teatro alla Scala’s Master in Performing Arts Management and breathing in all of what this artform has to offer.

My operatic fondness started when I was 8 years old, with my father. As a devout music lover, he was always listening to classical music and operas and this music became a soundtrack of my childhood. One particular day he explained to me the story of Puccini’s Turandot. I remember at first I was greatly intrigued by the production and the eerie story, but essentiality it was all about the music. Ten years later my father and I made a trip to the San Francisco Opera to see Anna Netrebko in Verdi’s La Traviata. It was a turning point in my life, how could a voice be so powerful to fill an entire theatre? I fell in love with opera, with the stage, the story, the costumes, basically all of the arts that come together for the greatest spectacle, on any stage of the world.

Now it’s my turn to share my passion with you.

Thank you for reading!
